When You First Arrive: All military personnel who are going to live off-post are required to report to the housing division within 48 hours of their arrival in Seoul. The Yongsan Housing Division has two offices that deal with USFK personnel living off-post; the Community Home-finding Relocation and Referral Services Branch (CHRRS) and the Furnishing Management Branch.
CHRRS: The Community Home-finding Relocation and Referral Services Branch provides assistance to service members when they go to find off-post housing real estate offices. They work with approved off-post housing. These services are available to all military and command sponsored DOD civilians.
Furnishing Management Branch: The Furnishing Management Branch controls all military furniture and all appliances you can obtain (stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer) for the entire duration of your stay in Korea. For anyone who is command sponsored (including DOD civilians and command sponsored contractors), they can also provide temporary loaner furniture (90 days for inbound and 60 days for outbound). Contact your sponsor, contract office representative or the Housing Division to determine your eligibility to use this service.
Temporary Housing Allowance (TLA):
TLA is a financial allownace that is designed to partially reimburse military members and their families for the added living cost of and overseas duty station. It is important to understand that you must receive prior approval from the housing division before you occupy temporary lodging. The rules on TLA and the amounts given for TLA freguently change; so it is important for you to check with the housing division or your finance office for the latest updates.
Move in Housing Allowance (MIHA):
MIHA is a financial allowance paid to all personnel that move into privately leased or owned quarters overseas. MIHA covers specific rent and security related expenses that are incidental to moving into these quarters. See your finance office for more details on exactly what is allowed.
